My surgeon has told me not to wear bands after my surgery, while my orthodontist has told me to wear them. My surgeon is afraid it will affect the incisions from healing, while the orthodontist wants them on to help my bite get perfected and corrected now that surgery is done.

What would you all reccomend?

Also, my surgeon said he only advanced 9-12 mm, and that he wants me on soft foods for 2-1/2 months. From what I've been reading, most jaw advancements are greater, and people are on soft diets for a shorter time, and are allowed some chewing after 6-8 weeks.

Is my surgeon being too conservative in my healing, and should I feel discouraged that he didn't advance to what is seems is the typical amount?
