Posted by Non-functional on October 21, 2008 at 22:27:04:Two excellent MMA surgeons disagree strongly. One says I need TMJ
surgery with Mitek Anchors at the same time as my MMA surgery. The other MMA strongly disagrees. He said the approx. risk of having the tmj surgery just from the tmj surgery was 30%. However, the approx. risk of not having the tmj surgery is approx. 70 %. The risk would be pain from TMJ & total TMJ joint replacement and possiblity a redo of the MMA. I do not have pain In my TMJ or else. For one year after I was wearing the TAP oral Appliance for sleep apnea I had clicking in my TMJ, also I had my right TMJ coming out of the socket a little when eating a big sandwitch. This lasted 6 months after the oral appliance. I do not have have clicking or the tmj coming out anymore for about 9 months and again I do not have pain. This surgeon is basing his TMJ surgery on a MRI of my TMJ. He wrote in an article that the TMJ is the foundation of the jaw. I asked a TMJ surgeon and he said you would not build a building on sand. But then I saw a TMJ dentist and he does not know. I asked why don't other MMA surgeons do This and he said the do not know how. Hay no other MMA surgeon talked about as being a risk let alone did a MRI of my TMJ. Additionally, two other MMA surgeons disagree with him. One MMA surgeon however says he is an excellent surgeon and would have him do him if he needed surgery. The other surgeon said after the hundreds of MMA he has done he never had a total joint replacement. I have to decide quick because I am not functional and can not work because of the severe tiredness from sleep apnea.Sincerely,
