I'm now past 7 weeks post MMA. The lower jaws are feeling pretty good, I can feel the cut areas, but mostly those areas are kind of just stiff and feeling kind of numb, not much pain. The upper jaw cuts are still giving me some pretty good gripping and pinching pain, they seem to be healing slower. And I get the occasional shooting pain through the jaw and one or the other jaw joints. The nerve regeneration seems to have started, my lower teeth are getting some feeling, and so is my chin, though the upper teeth are still pretty wooden. The hard palate is definitely getting back some feeling. As for sleep, it's kind of hit and miss. Definitely dreaming a lot more than pre-MMA, but I tend to wake up every 2-3 hours, almost always from a dream. Last night I had a 4-hour stint without waking up, which was maybe the longest so far. When I wake, I can tell my mouth has been open, it's dry. My surgeon tells me to be patient with the healing and with the sleep patterns and open mouth. So, I will be. It's nice to be able to actually eat some things that aren't liquid. Even mushed or chopped foods are great. Hopefully, the bone healing will really take off in the next few weeks and I won't need the nerve pills I am taking and the occasional narcotic pain pill, especially at night. So, in a word, this patient is being patient....
