The surgery has been a success in every way but one - pain. I've lost over 75lbs, stopped smoking and the follow up sleep study showed i am free of Sleep Apnea (and still am).
Oh yeah, the pain thing... Ever since the surgery i have experienced nerve pain in my lower jaw area, my lower lip remains especially sensitive and yet the majority of my chin is dull to the touch. Also, i have had additional pain from having to continue to wear my retainers - with no end in sight until later next year it seems (the orthodontist is concerned with the teeth moving). Lastly, even though my chin is dull to the touch - i still seem to have deep seeded bone pain. I am in veterinary sales and the more i talk, no matter what time of day, the more discomfort; and eventual pain i feel in the evening. All of this is made worse by the fact that i have been on tegretol (for a few months) and a vast array of other medications to dull the pain for closer to 6+ months. The medication has helped some with the pain and discomfort; but has diminished my short term memory and overall sharpness. My questions to everyone is - would someone be able to provide me with referral information for a Dr. from Stanford or somewhere else they had success and healed? I'd like to get a phone consultation after sending my information over to them (and maybe fly out to them if necessary). I remember being enamored by the overall success of many and wonder why i am left sitting here in pain and nerve damage after a year. I am well aware that the chin numbness and nerve issues could arise from the surgery... My issue is should i stilll be wearing retainers this far out? I feel they are exacerbating my pain. Also, if i am still in pain after wearing the retainers, what is the realistic chance of ridding myself of the nerve pain and bone pain i still have? I am just exhausted from repeated visits to my neurologist, pain management specialist, surgeon and no one seems to know what to do with me!!! Please help!!
