I think it will depend on what kind of pain relief that they give you. In my case, they gave me Dilaudid, which they told me to use to handle intense pain. THey also gave me other pain killers like Tylenol 3s etc. The thing is that some of these pain killers can make you feel drowsy. After the dilaudid, you feel pretty sleeply. One the initial pain is over, you will start to feel stronger. I probably would have felt comfortable driving short distances about one week after surgery. Everybody is different though. Other people who wrote on this forum experienced much more pain than I did. It is hard to say.
