Cured....Not Cured......

I had posted previously that I had my sleep study following my MMA in June and that I was shown to be cured. I was shocked at getting that result as I was still feeling some things that felt just like apnea episodes. But ust prior to and for a couple of weeks following that sleep study, I did in fact sleep very well. I started waking up with more and more feelings of apnea after that and now I feel like I did before the study. I can't explain why this has happened, but now I am working with my doctors to get a second follow-up study approved that will hopefully show what I've been feeling. The Dr's seem to have some doubt about what I think is happening, but are at least going to humor me with another test. We are all a little concerned about the possibility of the next test also showing me as 'cured'. And by cured, my last test showed less than one for my AHI with mean oxygen saturation at 96 with nothing below 92%. Sure looks like a cure to me (for one night at least).

I have been sleeping in a more upright position on our reclining couch and that helps.....other than the fact that I can't get very comfortable that way. I still wake up with some episodes, but that's usually if I don't sit in my upright fetal position to let gravity pull my lower jaw and tongue forward. I am still far better off than I was prior to the MMA. I feel like I am very close to being cured, but that I need that last little bit to keep my tongue from falling back. I am able to sleep for several hours on my back on some nights and that would never have happend before. I also don't wake up with the severe sweats like before. I am hoping that the next test will show us what is happening so I can move on to the next step. Even if they can't do anything else for me, I am still much better off than before, but I'm sure if there is some lingering apnea, there will be something they can do. I didn't have the GA yet or any tough base somnoplasty. I'm sure either one of those will help significantly at this point.
