Thank you so much bruinmd. I really appreciate it.
To answer your question, YES! I do have a history of acid reflux issues and so does my dad. Good catch. But if that's the case, why don't I get this issue when I use the CPAP? I eat heavy meals when I get home from work (around 7 pm) and I sleep around midnight. However, I do not drink alcohol or smoke.
The mornings where I do wake up choking, my heart typically beats faster throughout the day. For example, if I walk up the stairs, I can feel my heart beat a bit faster than usual. But days where I sleep fine with the CPAP, I never feel my heart beating fast at all.
Also, in my pulse oximetry reading, the moment before I wake up choking, my oxygen steeply drops to around 66%. Is that normal for GERD while sleeping?
Also, I know I didn't mention this earlier, but I was diagnosed with sleep apnea in two sleep studies before I started using the dental appliance.
None of my relatives have this sleep problem that I'm having. I even have a cousin who's the same height as me and 100 pounds heavier and he has no sleep problems at all. He can sleep for 4 hours and still wake up refreshed throughout the day. It's not fair!
