Hi Everyone,

I have been experiencing pain in my left TMJ increasingly since the doctor removed the
arch bars 2 weeks ago. (I'm now 7 weeks post op). I have no history of TMJ problems
prior to the surgery.

My jaw can travel freely to the left, but can barely move to the right without
encountering hard resistance and pain. I have random muscle twitches or spasms that
briefly but painfully yank my jaw to the right against that hard resistance. I have tried
heat packs on the left joint, but that has not helped.

I'm also having some problems with swallowing (have difficulty clearing postnasal drip)
and breathing (while awake!) that I didn't have before the surgery. Most disturbing, when
I breathe hard enough out through my nose, as when blowing my nose or even walking
briskly, something is slamming shut in the area around my uvula and the air is completely
blocked off until I let the air out of my mouth. It is even occasionally affecting my
speech. This is new since the surgery and hasn't been improving at all.

I was wondering whether other patients have experienced similar phenomena. Does this
sound like what any of you went through after the arch bars came off and did it resolve
on its own?
