Hi bruinmd,

I was curious, how does UPPP contribute to hypernasal speach? I think I'm going to have the surgery after all. I'm still going to talk about it with 2 ENT's before finalizing my decision.

For my UPPP, they'd trim away my uvula, take my adenoids out, and take some tissue out from the back of my throat to widen the airway. Out of that procedure, what do you think would be best to be modified? My ENT seems to be open on how I prefer the surgery to be done.

I was thinking of asking my ENT to take less of the soft palate out, but the problem is, I have sometimes awaken feeling as if I'm choking on my soft palate. If they don't take enough of it out, I'm afraid I'd still have sleep apnea.

Also, what do you think about a lingual tonsillectomy? I know of someone that has had great success (got rid of his sleep apnea 1.5 years and counting). What he did was ask the doc to do a modified UPPP plus have a lingual tonsillectomy. The modified UPPP was that he asked the doc to just take much less of the soft palate as they usually do.
