Dear SomedudeinCalifornia,
There have been lots of people on this site who have had very poor outcomes after UPPP surgery. Many have had their apnea get even worse. It seems that any positive results are temporary.
Instead of UPPP, if you are refractory to CPAP, why not try MMA surgery, which has a much better profile (with 90% showing significant improvement, and many people on this site able to attest to its longterm effectiveness). MMA expands the entire airway (like when a room is crowded and the carpenter pushes back the walls to make a bigger room). It can be offered without a prior UPPP surgery. Results are as good without the soft tissue surgeries and patient can avoid the risks of adverse results, which are very common in soft tissue surgeries.
