Num-numbs,
There are some surgeries that many surgeons can do. For
example, an appendectomy is a routine procedure that most
general surgeons can do without a problem. However, MMA is
not one of those. I would be very careful about whom you
choose. You typically get one good shot at this and most
surgeons won't touch you for a "redo." This procedure is
extremely surgeon-dependent. The success of the surgery- in
terms of cosmetics, improvement in the sleep apnea,
complications, and relapse rate have a high level of variability
depending on who does the surgery. I would either wait to save
the money or find another way to pay for the procedure but I
would not choose a surgeon just because of financial reasons. If
you are truly that symptomatic, I would consider going with the
"nasal + MMA." If I could do it over again- that is what I would
do. But if you do the other surgeries first, I would consider
asking for the names of 5 consecutive patients who had the
surgery at least a year ago and see how they are doing. Anyone
can pick their 5 best cases over the years.Good luck.
Best of luck.
