I had severe sleep apnea (RDI 68 with oxygen desaturation to 77%). I am not overweight but I don't exercise routinely. I had MMA/septoplasty with Dr. KL over 6 months ago. The operation took about 4 hours at Stanford. The first night was in the ICU. I don't really remember much about the ICU stay because I was fairly sedated. Dr. KL saw me the next morning and moved me to a regular hospital room-private room! The second day was the tougher because my nose started to get very congested. Dr. KL came in that day and suctioned my nose, which realy opened it up. He did the same thing the next day before I left the hospital. The recovery wasn't too bad except for the nasal congestion. He came in on the weekends to suction my nose and cleaned my mouth, which I thought was very special. I stayed in Palo Alto for a total of 10 days and traveling back home to the east coast was not a problem because my jaws were not wired shut. I had some numbness on my lower lips and palate initially but most have resolved. My bite is good and I don't need any dental work. I now have amazing energy level and much less cranky. I used to think it was due to my profession and stress, but most was due to the apnea. Let me know if you want to know any specifics.
