I think the common notion is the soft tissue surgery is more painful than the MMA. It's a sharp pain vs. a dull pain. For me, both were tolerable. The first few days after MMA were hard but not very painful. One of the worst sensations I remember after the MMA was having phlegm trapped inside my mouth due to tight rubber bands and the inability to suck/swallow due to the sutured incisions along the gum line.
