Posted by bruinmd on February 25, 2009 at 10:10:10:I am feeling surprisingly well. The swelling is only mild. I actually had my parents take a picture a couple hours after surgery straight on and a profile one. There was no swelling yet and we all thought I looked better. I had only a minimally recessed lower jaw so I was amazed that it looked so good. My upper jaw was advanced 4-5mm and lower jaw 10mm with counter clock-wise rotation. The pain has mostly resolved and I don't think I will need narcotics anymore. I am tolerating oral intake and able to talk almost completely normally. He also did my septum and inferior turbinates. I am walking around, have surprisingly good energy but feel like I am going to need a nap. All-in-all SO FAR, much easier than tonsillectomy and UP3. Dr. LW said that there should be no permanent numbness. He stated that the main nerve was not even exposed. So far- this has been a piece of cake. (Finding some wood to knock on). LW's fellow said that his permanent numbness rate is < 5%. So Silvergirl- I think you are going to the right place. I would also consider having your septum done during the MMA. He said it is much easier to do during MMA.
I realize it is still early yet but I will post more in the next couple days
