SIlvergirl,

I was anxiously waiting to hear how your visit went. It has been
exactly a week now since the surgery. I was discharged after 2
days and left town after 6 days.

Pain: it has largely subsided after 24-48 hrs. I do get some
discomfort at times. I take Ultram (non-narcotic) and
occasionally take a narcotic at night to help sleep through the
night

Numbness: I am still pretty numb around my lower lip and a
little of my upper lip. My teeth are numb as well. He does not
anticipate a problem with long-term numbness

Sleep: I am getting 7-10 hours each night. I usually wake up
earlier in the morning and go back to sleep. He has prescribed
Klonipin (like xanax) to rest my jaws and keep from grinding at
night). It is different sleeping. I do dream more. And I am
sleeping propped up on my pillow so that may be waking me up
some too. I think it has changed my sleep but too early to
comment on the apnea. Overall- my energy has been good. I
can go hours where i feel good and then I can just crash. Some
days I don't need much of a nap and others I need frequent
naps. Still a part of the early recovery process.

Swelling: I would say there is mild-moderate swelling of my
lower face. It has gotten somewhat better but I think I will look
better after the swelling has gone down (than before surgery).
My surgery was over in 3 1/2 hours and they use very little IV
fluid so that helps too.

Eating: I am eating soup, boost, smoothies and lots of water. It
is easy to get behind on fluid.

I felt like I was in great hands the entire time. He saw me
everyday after discharge (and before), including saturday and
sunday. I stopped by the office an hour or so after you had left.
Glad you liked him. Talk to you soon,

Brian
