Below this post, you can see the whole matter. The jist of the whole thing is that people are divided on whether UPPP is helpful. Dr. Li defended the notion that it is helpful in certain cases. Others such as Dr. Ulshaug have said that there is a lot of evidence from around the world that UPPPs have not been very helpful. Ulshaug said that based on all the studies, he found that people would only get 12-24 months of positive benefits and would run a high chance of having some form of complicaiton. Dr. Li said that Ulshaug's calculations did not pretain to properly screened candidates. Basically, that would suggest that many people have not been properly screened. Li said that outcome would be much better if the following situation were true:

1. You have a have mild case apnea, not severe
1. You are young
2. You are not heavy
3. You have large tonsils
4. You cannot tolerate CPAP

Is this your case?

If I were in your shoes and I had to have a UPPP, I would certainly emphasize to the surgeon that I wanted him to remove as little tissue as possible. Do not worry about hurting his feelings, insulting him etc. This is your body, and you (not him) will live in it for the next fifty years.
