Well, that is a good question. I don't know about your particular situation. It might be that you are in the minority of people who actually need both procedures at the same time. But, to be brutally honest with you, I worry as to whether or not you are being properly screened for the UPPP, given your age and the severity of your apnea (this in reference to Dr. Li's explanation as to screening). Again, I don't know about *your* situation. I am just thowing this out there as a thought.
Sister, to tell you the truth, I think that you should wait until after the MMA, then reassess. I see this as the most conservative path. I think you have nothing to lose in doing so. If I were in your shoes (which I am not), I would get the MMA, then wait about one year, and then get a PST sleep study. At that point, I would reevaluate as to whether or not to get further surgeries. The thing is that if you need the UPPP, then you can have it later, but perhaps you might not even need the UPPP. I don't see why you need both at the same time. Why all the hurry? I mean.... is there a fire or something?
