After reading your post, I decided to reply to you.
It is now more than 3 years since I got a sleep test that showed a severe sleep apnea syndrome.
First I was put on cpap (15 cm H2O). I had a nose mask. Little movements and the masks leaks, my mouth opens.... I got a chin strap but that did not help: my nose started bleeding...
Next, I had a mouth mask. I slept better for while
but then I had air getting in my stomac.After a year it was an orthodontist who told me about MMA and advised me surgery. I needed braces, so I have them since two years.
Meanwhile, I lost weight: from 194 lbs to 161 lbs (5'10" tall) . New tests with cpap, then without: the apnea decreased drastically. My sleep doctor said that I was cured. But...I went from 161 lbs to 172 lbs and started again snoring loud and feeling tired. I am having again tests. The last one did not seem to make sense: suddenly during one hour (of the six recorded) there is snoring and around 160 events of apnea and hypopneas. I need to redo it. It was just time and money for nothing.
After two years of braces, I want to do the MMA, to stop snorrrring and having apnea. My sleep doctor is strictly opposed to MMA and says "CPAP, CPAP, CPAP!". But, after all what I read, I hope not to have to consider UPPP or trach: too many side effects...
Also, even with insomnia I refuse to take pills to sleep. I try to manage to recover extra sleeping time as soon as I can. Of course, this is just a personnal decision.
I hope similarities of my case with yours can help you.
