I am on Provigil (aka modafinil) 100mg daily, to counteract the residual daytime sleepiness that I still have (despite being on CPAP). Without Provigil, I was getting really sleepy in the middle of the day. Sometimes I would have to take a nap at work. With Provigil, that never happens.

That said, I've gotten my CPAP optimized to the point where I might stop taking the Provigil within the next few months.

I wouldn't say Provigil really "gives you energy" although the net effect may feel that way. It isn't a traditional stimulant like caffeine or amphetamines; it is narrowly targeted at promoting wakefulness. That is to say, it will suppress your urge to fall asleep. The way I look at it, Provigil is just a "band-aid" that addresses one of the symptoms of apnea, to allow the patient to function more normally. It is not by any means a cure and I would not recommend that anyone take Provigil and think that they are now cured from the harmful effects of apnea.
