I had an emergency trach and a very long stay in the University hospital afterward.

The hospital was out of network but I could not go anyplace else due to the emergency.

The total bill waas well over 100,000 dollars and the hospital and MDs took the insurance pyment and wrote off the rest.

This was several years ago and I doubt if it would happen in todays times.
