As I am sure sleep surgeon will say (much more authoritatively of course), it depends on the person. My upper jaw could never have handled so much movement. I had my surgery 6 weeks ago. i look better overall but not many people can tell the difference. i definitely can tell the diffence in my sleep quality.

My upper jaw was advanced 4 mm and the lower jaw 10mm (at the site of the bone cut). He also used the counter clock-wise technique that not that many surgeons are comfortable with.

My surgeon told me that you get most bang for your buck for with the first 10 mm of movement of lower jaw. And that more movement can increase the airway but not as much (proportionally as the first 10 mm). I do wonder whether I could have handled more forward movement. But unfotunately it is not like trying on a shirt. I want to EMPHASIZE that is his feeling and other surgeon's may disagree. I don't state that as a fact or anything other than one doctor's opinion. You can ask 5 different doctors the same question and get 5 different answers.
