Were you given any prescription for mouth rinse or anything like that? It's pretty important until you are able to floss and brush to ward off tooth and gum decay.

Usually after a week or two it is safe to brush with a SOFT brush (like a baby tooth brush) to dislodge pieces of food.

Flossing is hard since you often can't feel enough to know if you are cutting into your gums.

Your surgeon should have given you some information on this (assuming you are post-op and not just asking for the future - in which case your surgeon will give you instructions).
