Posted by SomeDudeinCali on May 20, 2009 at 10:57:01:My AHI is 5.4, which is very mild sleep apnea (minimum AHI for sleep apnea is 5). Sleep test lady said I don't need a CPAP but I should change my sleep position. Anyone have any suggestions on sleep positions? I currently prop up the bottom two legs of the front of my bed about 2 inches and I use two pillows. I always sleep on my side (interchange between right and left side).
My symptoms: Some days I feel fine, some days I feel a bit tired (usually not enough for me to take a nap). I never fall asleep at the wheel while driving. I drink about 1 to 2 cups of tea a day and that keeps me peppy throughout the day. I'm in my late 20s and my ENT said I have large turbinates and a slightly deviated septum. Sometimes I can breathe out of my nose, sometimes I feel like I'm not getting enough oxygen so I breathe out of my mouth.
Interestingly enough, I remember in my first sleep test back a few years ago, my AHI was 21, but that's because they instructed me to sleep on my back (even though I never sleep on my back in regular situations). I have also had my tonsils removed (due to infection).
