Dr. Li, to be fair, I did see you a few years ago and you DID recommend that I undergo MMA directly. However I was too very scared of MMA then. I choose to go with the other surgeon's recommendation to go with Phase 1 hoping that it was a smaller procedure. The general consensus now amongst this forum members seems to be against UPPP/GA, wish I had known this 2+ years ago when I did the surgery (neither did I know this forum). Also I seem to generally overcoming the fear of MMA by reading about experiences on MMA surgery on this forum (thanks a ton guys!).
However I must say that I have seen several posts where they claim that Stanford is very protocol intensive. For example here is a quote from Pedal's blog (http://pedal-mma.blogspot.com):
"As a last effort, I sought the advice the top doc at Stanford. It took only two days to get an appointment with the amazing physician. To make a long story short, the doc walks in the room, looks at my face, and tells me that my facial structures are all wrong, and they are going to need to break my jaw. WOW! He went on to explain that prior to surgery, there is a very specific protocol they follow - CPAP, phase I surgery, and ultimately phase II (MMA). He said the process would take several years. (He was right)."
I must say that my surgeon himself was fantastic and the surgery itself was done very well. Well ... now I know that MMA is my only last remaining option!
Thanks again for taking the time to read and respond on this board.
