My recovery was smooth and I left town 11 days after the surgery and then went back to see my surgeon 5 weeks after surgery when he removed the arch bars. It is probably ideal for your surgeon to treat you if you have problems, but I didn't get the sense from this forum that people develop difficulties long term.
