Posted by SleepyJohn on June 17, 2009 at 04:00:33:I had yet another sleep study last night. I believe that makes 5.
This one was to titrate me for a bipap. I had been suspicious that a bipap wasn't going to do it. Now the lab doesn't believe it either.
I asked the tech what the level were, she said 16/12, but there were a lot central events. I said, that's the risk of the high pressure. She said they were central events at much lower pressure too. hmm. I didn't see that coming. She indicated that my dr probably won't go with the bipap (and I have little doubt she's correct). And that they'd probably send me back to titrate on an ASV machine. My understanding on the ASV machines is that they work great for some people and not at all for others.
I've seen this whole exercise as due diligence before moving on to an MMA. I've had a long and miserable history with xPAP. While I'd like to ditch it, I would live with it if it were effective for me. But its not, and now I have clinical data to back it up.
So the really question is this, is the MMA appropriate for complex apnea? I would think so. I would think if the MMA gets rid of the need for the cpap, then the centrals will go away.
For a little background. I'm 43 year old male, 5'9", 185 lbs. And other then my sleep issues, I'm in good health, and I'm fairly good shape (I'm an avid mtn biker).
