My approach has me maintaining a consistent bed-time. Eventually I will settle on a wake time when I wean myself from the sleep meds. When I go to bed, I do deep breathing exercise (4 exhale breaths for each 4 heartbeats, and then 4 inhale breaths for 4 heart beats). This definitely lowers my heartrate to the low 50s or high 40, it seems like there's more I could be doing to let go of my day.
