Pretty much as I described in my post. It's helping. I can't tolerate my mouth closed while awake. There's a strong feeling of suffocation if you try that. So I won't tape the mouth anymore when I use it. But I partially keep it closed (with a u-shaped tape or chin strap), just barely enough to exhale from the mouth. After you fall asleep, the mouth is supposed to close shut naturally. (When you're unconscious, you don't sense this problem).
In any case, I described about the mouth-breathing problem I had to my sleep doc recently after using it. I'll wake up with a dry mouth so i know I'm mouth-breathing. He said even though I'm a mouth-breather, it means that a mouth-breather doesn't breathe thru his mouth 100% of the time. Just part of the time. That would explain why this provent is still helping out.
I just hope they'll (provent) figure out a better solution for mouth-breathers soon though.
