(sigh).....You're missing my point I was making since the beginning of this thread. There are TWO different surgical procedures I was discussing. There's the simple submucosal coblation that strips a small amount of tissue under the mucosal layer using a coblation wand. A relatively simple procedure that sounds like what your surgeon plans to do. This is usually what they mean by tongue coblation surgery and is usually compared to tongue somnoplasty in effectiveness. Why? Only a relatively small amount of tissue is removed. Your surgeon feels the coblation method is better than the somnoplasty method since the results seem permanent. The other surgery that was mentioned in the link was midline glossectomy. This procedure is more invasive and removes a much bigger amount of tissue. In the past, it usually required the use of a surgical scalp. But the link mentions how they're using the coblation wand to do this procedure.
