Well, I guess the obvious thing to do would be to ask your doctor what he's planning to do and ask him to describe things so that a layman can understand it. If it were me, I wouldn't wanna just make assumptions and make guesses based on articles. I'd wanna get my info directly "from the horse's mouth" about what he's planning to do.

Midline glossectomy is a very invasive tongue surgery. In spite of it being very invasive with potential for complications, clinical studies doesn't show great results with it. But that's information I'm mentioning that's several years old. Things may have changed. (The article mentions that it's not as morbid since it's now done with a coblation wand. Has less complications). But I'd still wanna know if he's planning something like this or something much less invasive and with less complications.

In any case, ask him to explain it so you can understand it as a layman. Don't just assume.
