I had it done in October 2008, due to my very large tongue. The surgeon removed about 25% of the back half of the tongue. It work well for me. The main risk is bleeding - I was kept knock out for 2.5 days to get past the danger period for bleeding. Other than that I didn't really have anyother issues with it. To determine exactlt what to take, I had a MRI scan, ultrasound machine in the theatre to find the major blood vessels. But it worked well in the end. If you have made this committment so far, this is a lot easier operation than a MMA.
