Oxygen desaturation is certainly something you can compare, just like the % of slow wave sleep, % of REM sleep, Sleep stage shifts, duration of apnea and hypopnea, RDI during REM and non-REM, sleep positions...etc. The point is that most people focus on RDI and it is just a single value within a sea of data. To truly evaluate sleep study results and compare them, they should be done at the same lab, same tech, same sleep physician and similar sleep positions. It is difficult to really control all the factors to have a good comparision. But we all do it because it is all we have.
