I've imagined myself waking up in intensive care after having this procedure, being prepared for how I will feel instead of freaked-out. I want to go through with an MMA. I'm sure of it now. I even noticed myself casually talking about it to friends today, as if it was no big deal at all.
I see the "jaw surgeon" Tuesday after next, and I hope the surgery can be scheduled soon.
Things that concern me: Does this cause tooth looseness, exposed tooth roots, etc.? If you already have periodontitis, can it make it worse? Mine is mild, but still! How the heck do they do this without hurting your teeth? I just don't get it yet.
I mentioned earlier that I am high-functioning autistic. I also have a boyfriend with the same condition (Asperger's Syndrome) who will be my primary caretaker. He does not cook for himself or always take his own meds on schedule. I believe that this could be a problem, unless I have easy food on hand for him to bring me and I keep up with my own med dosing. Sensitivities to other people are exponentialized with autism. It's why I can't wear the cpap mask and why I cried over nasal spray (it was intense, not painful!) and not a nasal probe (which was non-intense) at the ENT office. So, I have to realize this is not going to be an easy ride.
But, if medicare and the state of Oregon plan cover this, I will be immensely grateful.
