I recently came across a very intriguing study published this spring, titled "Effects of Oropharyngeal Exercises on Patients with Moderate Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome."
http://www.thoracic.org/sections/publications/press-releases/resources/051509-lh-art.pdf

(Download the file now, because I don't know how long it will remain at the above address.)

The theory is that one component of sleep apnea is the failure of muscle tone in the airway. Therefore, by using speech therapy techniques to train these muscles, we can lessen the tendency of the airway to collapse.

They reported good results, so I figure I may as well try the exercises and see what happens!
