I had an MMA+GA 18 months ago (January 2008) which did not resolve my apnea. It was my first apnea surgery. Much more info here:

I was very retrognathic before the surgery, and I think the MMA failed to create sufficient room in my throat. I wish my surgeon could have moved my lower jaw farther forward, but if she had done so, my bite would have been really messed up. By her measurements my upper jaw was advanced 10mm and my lower jaw 15mm.

I have a floppy, low-hanging soft pallet and I think the MMA didn't do much to resolve that. Also, as discussed in the above link, I have some central apneas which I am now taking medication for.

Future plans:

1) Continue taking medication for the central apneas.

2) I can still thrust my lower jaw pretty far forward. So I'm going to try an oral appliance and see if that helps.

3) If the oral appliance helps, I'll see if a sliding genioplasty + GA is feasible. I'd rather not do a revision MMA except as a last resort.

4) I may have some surgery done on my soft pallet, since it's so big and floppy.

5) I'm going to try the speech therapy exercises mentioned in this post:
