In particular, it collects testimonies of patient that allows one to see what to expect forward. Posts of Learian, Pedals, Seattlebill, Bruinmed, Westernjoe, just to cite a few, are very useful for me, not mentioning the invaluable sleepsurgeon comments.
I decided to write this long post as my symptoms could be a bit unusual or rare, so it might be useful to someone. On the other hand, your comments are often helpful and always very much appreciated.
So the main symptoms are:
1) The chin/ lower lip are still, but less, burning. It happens now time to time, especially when contracted. The outside part of the chin has recovered about all sensitivity, inside it is still numb, except for the left side which feels nearly normal.
2) Both ears feel stopped up, with sometimes a burning sensation.
3) Uvula touches the back of the tongue (that makes me feel miserable). This reminds me of Learian.
4) All the face muscles feel "contracted" or tightened, but they are not. This is particularly true for the chin.
5) My palate feels very strange. Touching the top with my tongue, I have a strange nose sensation. Also I feel like the soft back is some kind of new strange membrane. Sorry, I do not find yet how to describe it.
For point 1) the burning chin/lower lip, the surgeon excluded the use of neurontin because of the big risk of viral infection (with swine flu ...). I took some prednisolone. The pain decreased both in intensity and in duration.
For point 2) and 3) the surgeon says it is abnormal. He explains this by the fact that in advancing the upper jaw, he stretched the muscles of the soft palate, as the palatosalpingeus, and that pulled the uvula to the front. He expects, or hopes that, the muscles will relax after 3 to 6 months and the ears will return to normal. For the uvula, I might have to cut part of it. Now, the lower jaw was advanced 7 mm more than the upper. It really have to be stretched a lot so that the uvula touches the back of the tongue, while it didn't pre-MMA. I worry that it is too much to return to normal feeling.
Points 4) and 5) I have no idea about what is happening.
