Yes, you make a lot of good points. But the thing is that you are talking about ideals. In actual practice the insurance companies are screwing people over. They are businesses, and making a profit is the most important goal of a business. That goal overrides customer service (sad but true). You only need to read the boards to see all the run-around that people who need an MMA get. Even though these people have paid their dues, they are nervous when it comes time to make a claim. It's not a given that they will be duly given the MMA operation. They may have to fight for it. In the end, the insurance company will decide what the most cost effective way out, whether to pay the claimant or to pay lawyers to fight the claimant. This is what i have a problem with. In what you call socialized medicine, health interests are allowed to override profit. Yes, we all have to share the burden. A burden shared over the shoulders of many people is bearable. The more people supporting the burden, the more bearable it is. That is the essence of how any insurance plan works.

I also have no problem with a doctor having a million dollar house. Rest assured that Canadian, British, German, etc. doctors are living very, very comfortably. My own brother is a Canadian surgeon (he worked in California before), and he is making a tidy sum of money.

Lastly, the current system in USA is problematic because certain people are uninsurable. I suggest that this confronts the American constitutional right to "life, liberty and pursuit of happiness".
