I paid 2500 bucks for mine. I received quotes from 2500 to 5000 dollars. I found that there was a huge range in cost. It seemed that big city orthodontists charged almost double. For example in Vancouver or Toronto, the braces cost five thousand dollars. In a smaller city, Halifax, I got them for half that price. To give perspective on cost, our dollar is worth about eighty percent of yours (0.80 x 2500) would be the amount in US dollars.

I got the advice not to take arch bars, and to go the route of getting braces so that my jaws could be wired shut. Although arch bars are cheaper, they don't stablize enough to ensure you will come out with a good bite afterward.
