without going into my history too much..I have had 1 failed MMA in 2001 and must have another one. Every holiday season I get relaxed enough where Im sure my sleep is about to be better. (even tho i know the waking headache will be worse). So what happens is I am so relaxed that my throat just falls shut IMMEDIATELY after going to bed shutting off airway. So then I am struggling right away from OSA and cant fall asleep very well. This syndrome also happens during a message..where I get really relaxed and have to concentrate to hold my airway open even tho Im far from falling asleep. I have noticed for years that I have a syndrome where I have to struggle for a satiating yawn/deep breath. The Sa02 levels arent affected, when this happens. So I have theorized that my mind has adapted to the airway shutting off (osa) and the more relaxed state is bypassing my bodies bizarre adaptive mechanism. The deep breath /yawn syndrome is the awake version of my body tryig to adapt. Like my brain has learned that if it lets things get too relaxed, the air supply will immediately shut off. Sleep studies show poor sleep efficiency and lack of stage 4-5 totally, so my brain works to avoid the deepest sleep cycles it seems. A yawn is like a mini deep sleep when it occurs, and I think the struggle to get a good yawn is actually an adaptive carryover for osa that occurs while awake. My mind works to avoid even that mini deep sleep cycle (a yawn) as it knows the throat will shut off like a valve! Basically , my mind is on guard and keeping me in a hyper mode of consciousness to avoid any deep sleep. Id rather have some deep sleep even at the expense of the searing apnea headache.
