Posted by thr61 on April 01, 2010 at 09:35:22:This is my first posting here after spending some time reading through the current and past postings. I had MMA surgery (along with tongue advancement and turbinate removal) done 2 weeks ago in Massachusetts by Dr. WIllie S. who was one of the principle developers of the procedure at Stanford.
So far so good in terms of recovery -- it has been slower than I expected, but it was a 9 hour case and I lost a fair amount of blood and spent 2 days in the ICU. However, now that I am at home, things are improving and the pain is considerably reduced.
I was wondering how long people chose to sleep sitting up post surgery? I spent the first week at home sleeping in a lounge chair with pillows etc. and was getting up to 5 hours of uninterrupted sleep. I recently moved back to the bed and am using pillows for a more gradual incline, but not sure if I am rushing it. What have others' experiences been?
I am sure I will have other questions to post as this process continues. I am also happy to answer any questions about my experience with the process for those considering it.
Thanks!
