Yes, we do have a lot of common – almost identical case studies. I posted my entire experience on Dr. Li’s patient experiences section on his website http://www.sleepapneasurgery.com/max_advance_exp.html
I posted as this person:
MG (Female 30) - Orange, California
Date of maxillomandibular advancement - January 12, 2010
Westernjoe is right – 8 weeks out is still too soon. Quite honestly, I did not feel significant sleep improvements until 8 weeks onward and started to panic but fortunately others said it takes several months to see any improvement and if they do, the progress is slow. At 11 weeks post MMA, my sleep is MUCH better but still have room for improvement which is expected. For some people it has taken a year or more before they were better and remember even normal people have bad night’s sleep periodically.
As far as helpful hints go, I am doing the following:
I sleep with my head elevated with 2 fluffy pillows only. I stopped using the wedge pillow because it was kind of uncomfortable. I sleep on my side with my head tilted upwards which helps to keep my airway passage open. I sleep with a small pillow between my knees whilst on my side to keep my entire spine aligned. I also practice good sleep hygiene which makes a BIG difference believe it or not. I do not eat anything 4 hours before bedtime, I avoid alcohol in the evening, I sleep at the same time every night and avoid overstimulation before bedtime. I’m also on Ambien CR a couple of times a week which is really helpful. Sometimes I have insomnia. Dr. Li said I should speak with an insomnia specialist named Tracy Kuo who I was going to contact but my insomnia gradually decreased. Expect to have many bad nights but do not panic as this is normal.
