Posted by Needssleep on May 01, 2010 at 10:05:18:Hello,
9 months passed since my MMA. I write again in this forum to share with you my experience:
%%%%%%%%%%%%%% The good things: %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
1- No more snoring or nearly so. Wow!!!
2- Apnea+hypopnea: 9/hour. This equals the rate obtained with a CPAP. It is half of the one without CPAP (17/hour). Note that at the start, before loosing weight, it was 47 events/hour.
3- esthetically, I might have improved a little.
I can witness that MMA improves the apnea problem.
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% The ugly thing: %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
The sleep quality is "poor". It lasts about 4 hours, with only 2 cycles clearly identified, with many "micro awakenings". Not explained. I am still as tired as before.
Treating my apnea is not enough to get a good sleep quality. There are many posted messages with the same conclusions, I believe.
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% The bad things, a.k.a. MMA side effects: %%%%%%%%%%%%%%
1- Total loss of the possibility to move my jaw to the left !!! (I have not seen this secondary effect mentioned in this forum).
2- Permanent sensation of a foreign object at the level of the uvula. A lot of mucus from the back of the nose. I took some medicine (as mometasone) but I failed to treat it.
3- "electrical" kind of sensation when I pass my fingers on the lower lip or the chin. May be it will finish to disappear. In conclusion: MMA side effects can be worse or different from what one expects. They make me feel miserable. My family doctor thinks this surgery needs to be improved a lot, and that I should not have gone through. I do not know, and in any case; I can not go back.
Feel free to comment. Thanks.
