I am about 7 months post-op now and while I do feel significantly improved - I still feel there is much room for improvement. I can tell that I’m still having sleep breathing problems especially when I sleep with my head in certain positions. I think the problem is my tongue since I sleep noticeably better with my head elevated and my chin/head tilted upwards, opening the airway.

I will do a follow-up sleep study at Stanford on 7/18 and then visit Dr. Li the next day. I asked him about possible additional surgeries like genioglossus advancement and hyoid advancement but he said I have to wait a year after my surgery. It may be too soon to tell. I’ll probably give cpap another try since he said it will probably work now since my airway was larger. I have tried it a couple of times post-surgery at a low pressure of 8/9 – I think it is more effective now as I started dreaming more while using it and had WAY more energy during the day. But now that my airway is larger, air escapes thru my mouth so I have to wear the full face mask and I wake up constantly with a dry mouth. The mask pressing against my jaw aggravates my tmj joint since my jaws are still healing. It it is just one problem after another but I try to be patient and am grateful for the opportunity to have had the MMA.

As far as the Advair goes, I do not have any quantification of results of improvement due to Advair. My sleep is SIGNIFICANTLY improved after using this drug. It is an inhaler you use twice a day to reduce inflammation in the airways. Please give it a shot as I know it has really helped me.
