Immediatly following surgery for sleep apnea(UP3 and base tongue coblation) i have developed the following condition. During sleep my shoulder, neck, jaw or whole body will jerk causing me to wake up. The jerks seem to come in rem sleep because they are usually associated with extremely vivid, exaustive dreams (I've been video taping my sleep). Other times my finger or whole hand will move around and i'll jolt out of sleep looking around. A lot of times i'll fall right back
asleep and wouldn't even be aware it happened if I hadn't watched my video
the next day. I've been waking up like this every 1-2 hours for the last 9
weeks. A doctor I seen gave me Klonapin. I only took it two days over the
weekend and I still woke up every 1-2 hours but it made me so tired and
zombie like that i don't think i'd be able to get up early and drive to work
during the week. Since the surgery i can easily inhale and experience tongue
base collapse and my sleep apnea seems severe now but the retitration shows
the same pressure. I think my airway is getting partially restricted and
causing me to really struggle to breathe but the doctors say since i've been
retitrated on the cpap machine and i'm wearing the mask that it can't be a
problem. When I came out of the anestesia I was spagetti arms and legs and
twisting off the table till they gave me morphine. I've also wondered if i
could have suffered some kind of brain damage from the anestesia but no
doctors i've talked to so far will comment on what even happened when i came
out of anestesia. I currently don't know what to do now..my whole life is
drifting down the tubes becase i can't sleep at night. I'm seeing a
pulmanoligist now who has sceduled me for a mslt to test for narcolepsy. I
think that's rediculous becaude i don't have any of the four narcolepsy
symptoms. I see a lot of info on the web about myoclonic jerks when drifting
off to sleep, which i also experience, but my jerks are coming in deep sleep
when i'm having terribly exausting dreams. Anybody have any feedback on
this??
