I'm coming up on 2 years since my MMA. 18 /12 mm advancement on the bottom and top. Though I'm not sleeping like a baby, I do sleep much better, and do not have the afternoon blues like I used to, or near falling asleep while driving. I get 4-5 hours straight sleep before waking up with minor heart elevation, and usually during a dream. Have to sleep on my side, as back sleeping will make me wake up within 2 hours, still. But, MUCH more energy during the day. I can function! My 8 month post-surg sleep study showed my RDI was only down to around 20, from a pre-surg 31. So, that bummed me, but RDI is only one piece of the puzzle. The study showed much improved architecture (decent III, IV and REM sleep, where I had NONE of those before surg), Plus, my longest apnea was down to around 16-20 seconds from about 45 seconds pre-surg. That was huge. Anyway, I would do it again, certainly. Life is way better now. Still have wooden/tight upper jaw/teeth, but it seems even now about every two weeks I get some new sensitivity back. I'm going to see KL late this year or early next for a consult on maybe doing some soft tissue work to finish it off, get my airway open some more, and get the RDI down even more. After two years, I figure the MMA improvement has about run its course, and I'm going to be ready for something else to "finish off" the job, then focus on weight control and just being healthy otherwise. Hang in there, 8 months is not that far in the scheme of things in MMA recovery and assessment....
