From what I read in the medical literature and from the blogs and posts in forums, it's pretty clear there is a strong correlation between sleep issues and anxiety (and/or depression). Likely there is a feedback loop: bad sleep / lack of O2 yields anxiety/depression yields bad sleep. Personally, I suffer from anxiety, but it's controlled with 12.5mg lexapro (a relatively low to moderate dose). Something "snapped" during my internet startup days and my thermostat is stuck in hyper-vigilance mode. The days leading up to surgery were extremely anxious and sleep deprived for me, for example. Was super worried I'd get a cold and have to postpone surgery etc...
Anyway, I'm wondering if people would be willing to discuss this aspect of MMA surgery. I.e., has anybody with anx/depr noticed a change pre/post MMA? I imagine depr could get worse during slow recovery, but I'm talking about months out. Has anybody reduced medication or noticed reduced (or increased!) symptoms? I was too out of it to chop up pills post surgery so I dropped from 12.5 to 10mg lexapro right after surgery and don't seem to have trouble or nightmares (boy am I dreaming though! woot!). When I return to work next week (Day 28 I think), then I'll have better picture.
I've not seen a study on this but am very curious. I'm hoping to have less anxiety in the years ahead. Can anybody comment on clinical changes to their anx/depr?
Thanks!
