I would say that the MMA was the more significant of the two surgeries in that it knocked so many apneic events and hyponeas right out of my system. In a addition to an excellent result in reducing my RDIs, the improvement was remarkable in that my blood pressure went down, a four year headache remitted, dread heart burn disappeared, and palpitations were eliminated. Most dramatic was that my deadly fatigue started to lift over time, and I was no longer feeling like a balloon with no air.

I never lost the improved rested feeling, but I did start to have a few apneic events. Those coupled with not adjusting too well to the new internal mouth configuration--I was biting my tongue and checks--led me to discuss the benefits/risks of an MME. I'm 11 months post MME with no apneic events and continue to work full time. What interferes with my being able to accurately judge numbness at this point is that I'm in braces, a pre and post MME necessity.

I would say that the balsa wood feeling in my mouth and the spongy teeth resolved by the time I was 8-12 months post MMA. By the way, the spongy teeth feeling was quite significant following the MME because my teeth were in reality loosened. They've since tightened up.
