I didn't realize you were having both upper an lower plates/screws removed! My earlier post was regarding the lower plate/screw. I also had half of my upper plates removed on a separate surgery and for a different reason (non-TMJ). Again, it's still not nearly as bad as the MMA. The recovery (swelling/pain) subsided quickly and it took about 2wks for the swelling to go away. Good luck!
