After my arch bars were removed, I could barely open my jaws, had no lateral movement, experienced pops as you describe and had TMJ pain on one side. Here's what helped: 1.) I went to an orthodontist/sleep specialist who made me a splint 2.) The orthodonist gave me a prescription for physical therapy (pt) that helped enormously. At pt, they helped me regain all of the movement I lost after surgery - up/down, lateral and front/back (sliding lower jaw in front of upper.

I will start with braces soon but can now open and move my lower jaw like a champ.

Hope this helps.
