Greetings MMA world!

I am 5 weeks post MMA. I had my arch bars removed earlier this week.

I found that I had a big turnaround between weeks 4-5. Here is a quick update:

1. Pain. Zero. I obviously feel some pain when I open my mouth too far. I am able to open it enough now to fit in a grill cheese. I never really did have much pain. My UPPP was much worse.

2. Weight Loss. I lost 12 lbs and holding.

3. Numbness. A little bit in my chin. My upper gums and teeth are 100% totally stone cold numb. Zero feeling. Nothing. Dr. is confident it will come back. Very strange when I eat.

4. Swelling. Still some under my nose and upper and lower jaw. My nose seemed chubby and strange looking, but as the time goes by and swelling subsides, nose is getting much better. I am hopeful that once the swelling is gone, it will help with my nose appearance. I can live with it now, but am hopeful it returns to what it was.

5. Insurance. This has been a mess. Was OK'd for payment, and have gotten a number of suprises so far on re-imbursement. Thank You Blue Cross. Going to be a battle.

6. Eating. I have graduated to soft chewable foods. Grilled cheese with the bread being steamed, pleny of soup and grilled fish.

7. Sleep. Very good! I have had 1-2 strange nights when I havent slept well for whatever reason and a little bit of tiredness every now and then, but I am feeling much better. My wife has told me that I make zero noise when sleeping. No more snoring, snorting...nothing and my dreams are great.

The Dr. asked me at my arch bar removal if it was worth it. I must say, even only at 5 weeks that yes, it was.

Dont get me wrong. It was a long trip. Much emotional stress about whether or not I made the right decision, stress of long term affects and appearance, but yes, it was worth it.

Will keep everyone advised.

Happy New Year!
